While it’s optimal to have a 100% of your diet (a completely Vegan diet), at minimum we should be seeking to even out the percentage (60/40, 70/30, 20/80 etc). And while we make attempts to make changes individually, we do best when surrounded by a community (others that are seeking the same as you). Here at the veggie outers, we host and participate in events involving adding longevity to your health while recognizing the place and value veganism plays in it, hence we are veggie outers! This includes but not limited to: Going to Vegan or Vegan Friendly restaurants, athletic events (such as 5k runs, sports, vegan cooking demos or classes, and Vegan events. Many people wonder or are intrigued about the vegan lifestyle but don’t know where to start.

Here you will find answers to many of the questions you have about veganism such as but not limited to: Are there any vegan restaurants around? How does eating or trying vegan food help my health? How do I cook vegan food? Can eating vegan food help me with weight management?” Can this help my athletic performance? We seek to obtain all we can from our bodies and realize that veganism can play a key role in just that.

FAQs

What is a Vegan?

A Vegan is someone who structures their lifestyle around the abstaining from food products where animals are used in the making.

What's the difference between a Vegan and a Vegetarian?

Please visit our article "What's the difference between a Vegan and a Vegetarian" for the answer to this question.

What is a veggie outer?

We are a social group of people who are open to learning and trying more of anything related to the vegan lifestyle.

What makes the veggie outers different from all the other vegan meetup groups?

We are not a group of people who are coming together to bash people who eat meat. We present veganism as a means for one to achieve their health goals. Our founder Elijah Bilel, has had experience as a Vegan looking gain weight, lose weight and finally being a Vegan athlete (Or those who’s labor is very physically demanding). Because of this, he has a unique approach to using veganism to achieve individual health goals, and likewise all your other goals. He is seeking to share this information and approach with those who are seeking particularly health goals such as how to lose weight, maintain weight on a Vegan diet, how to gain weight and how to become Vegan for those who are interested.

Are there any topics that are off limits to talk about at meetups?

In general, all conversation is welcome! The exception being that highly controversial topics such as religion, politics or LGBT stuff is off limits as they have the potential make people uncomfortable.

Are all the outings in dallas?

No! Our meetups cover all of the DFW area. While this includes Dallas, there will also be meetups anywhere in the DFW area (Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, etc).

Is there an attendance policy?

We do! You can see the details of how it works here.

Does everyone have to order the same food?

Not always. Our objective is to educate and try the Vegan options at a selected restaurant. We often visit restaurants where their whole menu is Vegan, hence there are plenty of options. Sometimes we visit a vegan friend restaurant (Meaning they serve meat but have vegan choices). We pick from the selection of their Vegan choices. In some cases, there may only be one vegan choice, in which we all try that one item. If a member doesn't try the Vegan options with us, they will be removed from our contact list.

Can I suggest a restaurant?

Yes! Any member can suggest a restaurant for our next meetup. We will then review the restaurant to see if they have enough Vegan options for us to pay a visit. If the restaurant does, it will be added to our list of restaurants that we pick from for our meet ups.

How do you determine what restaurant you go to for the month?

3 Restaurants are selected usually having a different style of food. For instance, one restaurant may have Veggie hot dogs. A another may be Asian food themed. The 3rd may be Mexican food themed. From those 3 restaurants, we have a vote. The restaurant with the most votes is where we will visit next. Only members who have been to at least 2 meetups and have a 60% or higher show up rate will be offered a vote. This is to reward the most dedicated Veggie Outers. It is also a safeguard as it wouldn’t be fair for someone who never shows up to a meetup to have a vote in the next meetup if they are not likely to be there. Everyone's show up percentages is reset per six month interval. This means that every six months, everyone will have the chance to make and maintain the show up percentage necessary for voting.

Can I bring a + 1, a friend(s) or my significant other?

Sure! As long as they’re on board about trying the Vegan options, feel free to bring them along! Be sure to let us know ahead of time so we can reserve them a seat.
